The bottom-line of Nebraska's 2026 coaching changes

Where did the Huskers upgrade, downgrade or simply hold steady?

Spring football opens Saturday, a handful of Husker coaches will meet with the media today (after an unusually long absence) and NU made official Wednesday the hires we knew were coming: Brett Maher as special teams coordinator, Nick Humphrey as co-special teams coordinator and Tyler Yelk as safeties coach. Football is ramping up again after a quiet six weeks post-portal.

But until the team is actually on grass, we’re still in the “on paper” portion of the offseason and today we’re going to dive into Nebraska’s coaching reshuffle using a similar approach to last year.* Did the Huskers come out ahead, even or behind after four departures and six additions, including a drastic reshaping of the defense?

In the interest of making this more than just opinion, I’ll be returning to one of numbers I use often1 as a potential reality check.
