This one's for you, Nebraska fans
As we turn the page on 2024, there's no other way I'd rather end this year than a dedication to those that make this all possible.
On Saturday just before 3:30 p.m. ET, a man stood at the top of the stairs between sections 213 and 214A of Yankee Stadium. Celebration by Kool & The Gang blared over the loudspeakers while the man — decked out in a vintage Nebraska Starter jacket — high fived every person that walked by him.
Not far in front of him, another young man — also wearing a vintage Starter jacket — danced and fist pumped with a beer in his left hand.
“Everyone around the world,” the song continued.
“COME ON,” the crowd yelled in response.
I didn’t sit in the press box for this one, a first for me in 10 years. Instead, I sat in the crowd. I’m glad I did too. Had I not, I wouldn’t have witnessed the pure joy of so many around me firsthand.
In some ways, it was just a win over Boston College in a bowl game played in Yankee Stadium. In others, it marked Nebraska’s first bowl appearance since 2016 and its first bowl win since 2015.
That’s why — as 2024 comes to a close — I’m choosing to dedicate this last newsletter to you: the fans that make this whole thing worth it.
Enjoy.
