The Huskers are still finding their voice
Nebraska’s final summer media session showed a team with shooting, passing and flexibility, as well as a coach still looking for more communication.
Nebraska men’s basketball is almost done with summer work. We’re still a ways away from knowing what this team will look like when it matters, but that’s not to say summer practices are not useful. They absolutely are.
With that in mind, Monday’s final summer media session gave us a clearer picture of what coach Fred Hoiberg is trying to build.
The Huskers have talent. They have shooting, they have more options in the frontcourt and they have a point guard who is already making teammates notice his passing. They also have a coach who is still waiting to see how loud, connected and resilient this group can become when things stop going smoothly.
That is probably the place to start.
“Every one of our players are spending a lot of time with each other off the court every weekend. We’ve done a lot of team activities with them, and they’ve been a really fun group to be around,” Hoiberg said.
Hoiberg has talked about leadership since the Huskers first got together in June, and he returned to it again Monday. Nebraska has built chemistry. The players seem to like each other and the off-court part appears to be in a good place.
The on-court part is still developing.
