“A great day for Husker Athletics.”

Those were volleyball head coach John Cook’s words following Nebraska’s sweep of Rutgers on Saturday. The Huskers had just taken down the Scarlet Knights, 25-22, 25-15, 25-12, while football had defeated Purdue, 34-17.

Yes, it was a great day for Husker Athletics.

It might be more appropriate to call it a great weekend for Nebraska though. We’ll get to that in a bit. It was good and it was bad. It was “jittery” — Cook’s words — and there was pressure. But Nebraska handled it — football, volleyball, you name it — and that’s a pretty good place to be to start the week.

That doesn’t mean Nebraska can rest. Football, for example, has those turnovers to address. We look at the good, the bad and what you need to know as the Huskers head to Michigan State on Saturday. Volleyball, on the other hand, is chasing something that hasn’t been done since 2009 in all of Division I women’s volleyball.

And that’s not all.
