Rob Aurich loves everybody
And maybe this is how a 'Simple. Fast. Violent.' defense is born.
New Nebraska defensive coordinator Rob Aurich spoke with reporters for approximately 13 minutes this week. During that time, he said he loved cornerback Andrew Marshall, safeties coach Tyler Yelk, the media, linebackers and, out of context, ‘em.
So, the media love was more of a qualifier. “As much as I love and respect you guys, I’m with these [players] every day. I spend most of my time taking influence from what I see on the tape,” he said, answering a question about the popular offseason narrative that Nebraska has questions on the defensive line.
And the ‘em referred to the Huskers who called Aurich a “mad scientist” last week, though he joked he can “barely read.”
The love for Marshall, Yelk and linebackers is easier to trace. Aurich recruited Marshall to Idaho before they were reunited in Lincoln. He played with Yelk at Minnesota Duluth, finishing his career there second in career tackles to the current safeties coach. Aurich played linebacker.
Whether the word was softened with humor or not, how often Aurich said he loved someone struck me as the first big positive sign for NU in 2026. I think this is gonna work.
