Nebraska’s September was spotless. Now what?
The Huskers are unbeaten, but red zone flaws and special teams miscues linger. Michigan will find out if they’ve fixed them.
Nebraska has cleared the first hurdle. Three weeks in, the Huskers are undefeated, and for the second straight season Matt Rhule has navigated September without a blemish in nonconference play.
It started in Kansas City, where Nebraska had to claw past Cincinnati in a 20-17 grinder. The next two weeks brought lopsided wins: Akron offered little resistance in a 68–0 shutout and Houston Christian was overwhelmed in a 55-point rout. Taken together, those games showed both ends of Nebraska’s range. The Huskers are capable of suffocating an opponent when they execute, but they’ve also shown that when details slip, the margin for error in the Big Ten will shrink in a hurry.
Now the season shifts.
As Rhule put it: “Now, the Big Ten starts. This is a whole other animal.”
