Volleyball season is officially here in Nebraska and the Huskers had plenty to take from their first official weekend of the season. The Texas match in particular probably gave us the cleanest answer to one of the biggest preseason questions: could the Huskers’ serving actually become a weapon?
Against No. 2 Texas, the answer looked like yes.
Nebraska swept the Longhorns 25-19, 25-19, 25-16 on Sunday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, moving to 2-0 in official matches and closing out the Players Era Volleyball Showcase with a solid weekend performance. The Huskers hit .293—while holding Texas to .152—and out-blocked the Longhorns 10-4. Setter Bergen Reilly was named showcase MVP after running the offense with 30 assists, two aces, two kills and five digs.
That said, the match really tilted from the end line.
Nebraska finished with seven aces and six service errors. Texas had eight service errors and no aces. That’s a pretty simple place to start when reviewing what we saw over the weekend.
