Nebraska volleyball has outgrown the college season

The Huskers are 21-0 and still setting the standard, but what is happening around Devaney now says just as much about where volleyball in Nebraska is headed.

Spring volleyball at the Bob Devaney Sports Center? Say less.

In 2027, the Bob Devaney Sports Center will host professional volleyball from both of Nebraska’s major women’s pro teams. The Omaha Supernovas will play the Los Angeles Thunder on Feb. 28 as part of the John Cook Invitational. LOVB Nebraska will follow with a match of its own in late March, bringing Jordan Larson, Lexi Rodriguez, Rebekah Allick and Lindsay Krause-Wildeman back to the court where all four played collegiately.

By then, Nebraska’s current season will have been over for months but Devaney will still be busy with Nebraska volleyball.

That all feels like a big deal, especially while the current Huskers are doing everything possible to remind people why this state became such an obvious place to expand the professional game in the first place. Nebraska is 21-0, 10-0 in the Big Ten and the unanimous No. 1 team in the country for the third consecutive week. The Huskers have 17 sweeps in 21 matches and have dropped four sets all season. Their regular-season winning streak has reached 52.

The professional announcements and the current college dominance are separate stories on paper. Let’s talk about them together.
