Nebraska has a 'ton of guys,' but who is the one as Huskers start spring football?
A couple of weeks ago I asked if the Huskers had 'the guy' entering spring practices. They may not, but here are some options.
Matt Rhule is in the same boat.
I write that with plenty of reservations. Growing up on a farm outside of a tiny Nebraska town—much of that time being pre-internet—I’ll probably always be as afraid of seeming self-important as I am of late-July hailstorms. Despite that timeless setting, I was still on the internet early enough (mid-1990s1) that I guess I’m not so afraid to write this paragraph. It’s hard out here, straddling pre- and post-internet life.
Anyway, back to Rhule and Nebraska. He was asked last week about the talent level of his team entering spring football.
“What we have is a breadth of talent,” Rhule said. “We have just a ton of guys that I think are good players, just a lot of them aren’t established yet. So, can they go through that process? It’s one thing to go in and play 10 plays. It’s one thing to go out there and play scout team. It’s another thing to go out there when the pressure is on the line.”
A few weeks back I put the question to our readers “Who is the guy2 for Nebraska in 2024?” Whether here, on X (née Twitter) or on one of three radio spots I do a week, that question garnered feedback.
Knowing now Rhule sees some similar ambiguity, and given the Huskers started spring ball yesterday, let’s forward some the guy candidates and see how right/wrong we were come December.
