Nebraska gets the road it wanted, now it has to take it

For months, Nebraska softball built its season with this exact possibility in mind. It wasn’t just about making the NCAA Tournament. It was more specifically about hosting and staying home. Giving itself the kind of postseason path that elite teams fight all spring to secure.
On Sunday, Nebraska got it.
The Huskers were selected as the No. 4 overall seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament, the program’s highest national seed since 1998. They will host the Lincoln Regional at Bowlin Stadium beginning Friday, with South Dakota, Louisville and Grand Canyon coming to town.
If Nebraska wins the regional, it will also host a super regional.
Nebraska has hosted regionals before but not since 2013. It has been to the Women’s College World Series seven times but not since that same season. It made a super regional in 2025 but this year comes with the opportunity to control its own destiny at home.
