Nebraska’s season does not officially start Thursday night, but it still feels like Thursday night matters. To some degree, at least, even if the result doesn’t factor into the final record.
The Huskers are headed to AT&T Stadium for Spikes Under the Lights, where No. 17 Florida is waiting. It’s an exhibition, yes, but it’s also Nebraska’s first match this fall against someone else. It’s also the first chance to put the Red-White Scrimmage in better context and the Huskers’ first step into a season that already comes with No. 1 attached to it.
The Big Ten Conference has technically already started. Wisconsin went 1-1 at AVCA First Serve, losing to Kentucky and then sweeping Louisville. Penn State is also in Arlington with Nebraska this week for a ranked match with SMU.
That said, it’s going to be a bit before Nebraska needs to worry about the Big Ten. That’s a positive too, because the Huskers can use this time to get their own answers to questions that may feel unanswered.
