The countdown to Kansas City is on. 

Nebraska’s defense has logged two full scrimmages, weeks of hard practices and countless meetings under new coordinator John Butler through fall camp. With less than two weeks until the Huskers face Cincinnati at Arrowhead Stadium, the defense has shown flashes of what it could be—tough, physical and aggressive—while still revealing areas that need polish.

For Butler, who has brought an NFL-tested philosophy to Lincoln, his message is clear. Nebraska’s defensive identity will be defined by aggression and discipline, with playing time earned through performance, not potential. 

And with a deep roster across the board, that meritocracy1 is already starting to shape the fall.
