Nebraska basketball starts the next part

Nebraska men's basketball hosted its first summer media availability on Monday. And you could say that Nebraska men’s basketball is in a strange, new spot.

You could say that Nebraska men’s basketball is in a strange, new spot. Last season gave the Huskers 28 wins, a Sweet 16 appearance and the kind of postseason run the program had spent decades chasing. That changes the offseason a bit.

Coach Fred Hoiberg does not have to sell belief in the same way anymore because there is recent evidence now. There is also a different challenge moving forward. One historic season does not automatically become a repeatable standard. That was the useful part of Monday’s first summer media availability.

Hoiberg and his team aren’t deciding the full rotation in June. They’re not pretending every transfer is perfectly comfortable and every role is perfectly solved. What the Huskers are doing is trying to move from celebration to construction.

“We want to get right back to work, so we can feel the same thing a year from now,” he told the media on Monday. “Hopefully this puts us in a spot where we can compete for championships.”
