Mark Manning: 'We should pack Devaney every day we are there'
Coach Mark Manning spent a little time chatting with Counter Read about the season so far, his team and what fans need to know about supporting the Huskers — including thoughts on showing up.
Mark Manning is in his 23rd year coaching the Nebraska wrestling program. During that time, he’s coached 70 of Nebraska’s 131 All-Americans and has led the Huskers to eight top-eight finishes at the NCAA Championships. Compare that to the eight total from the 14 coaches that came before him in Nebraska’s 100 year history of wrestling and it’s clear to see what Manning has done has been impressive.
He isn’t Nebraska’s winningest coach in school history — a feat he earned in Feb. 2015 — for nothing.
As for this season, the Huskers are just over a month into their 2023 season. They most recently finished as the runner-up to Iowa State at the Cliff Keen Invitational last Saturday. The Cyclones finished with 130.5 points to the Huskers’ 125.5. Nebraska was one of two programs in the 35-team event to finish with two individual champions — Ridge Lovett with the the 149-pound title and Peyton Robb with the 157-pound title.
As Nebraska returns home before its only December dual, Manning spent a little time chatting with Counter Read about the season so far, his team and what fans need to know about supporting the Huskers.
