Couple of Monday updates:

•Huskers added an experienced interior starter on the o-line in Brendan Black of Iowa State.

•NU also got a commitment from San Diego State LB Owen Chambliss. He's going to be tough to top as the headliner in this transfer class.

*SDSU edge Trey White was supposed to be in Lincoln today, after a visit to Texas Tech, but the Red Raiders got his commitment. NU had an obvious in with him, but instead they're missing out on a difference maker on the d-line.

They're going to need to get like 75 or 80 guys out of the portal. On the bright side, there are definitely going to be guys there for them to get. The number of people in the portal is also crazy.

Skepticism is right. Does anyone else feel like the Huskers did not get a QB they were hoping for? Could the Huskers be hoping for a QB that is currently in the playoff?

Are there any top-ranked college football programs that have stationary QBs like Raiola?

I like what the Texas Tech head coach had to say about the yearly calendar for college football. Not that that will happen, because: money.

The interminable drives I have undertaken as I relocate my residence across Texas have left me time to ponder deep questions like"Will the b1g schedule the 2026 Black Friday game at night, and is it primarily to annoy Rhule?"

Thank you, excellent article, I especially like the ratings discussion. This's kind of like old school fantasy football time.

The Minchey commitment happened so quickly that I do think he was NU's top choice, at least among those QBs who reciprocated NU's interest. I would guess they at least made inquiries with some of the top guys, but maybe heard a few "thanks, but no thanks." Money is great, but after three seasons NU is a .500 program, so the Sam Leavitt's of the world have safer, just as lucrative options.

I'm really interested in what else NU does at QB. Would love to see it take a swing on a lower-division guy with proven production. I think the sweet spot is a player who's an underdog in a three-man battle, but not a prohibitive underdog.

I just saw Black from Iowa State committed. And in looking up information about him I saw the decimation of Iowa State as a team. 😱

Glad you mentioned that. Iowa State hired what I think is a pretty good coach, and just by circumstance and how the game is right now, it might take him two years to dig out of what was(n't) left behind. Pretty tough way to come out of the most successful stretch in program history. Almost feels like a deal with the devil.
