A different kind of Big Ten schedule for Nebraska

Big Ten opponent rotations are set, and with a new format in place, each matchup carries more weight as the Huskers evaluate whether to use the spring transfer portal.

The Big Ten didn’t release a full volleyball schedule on Monday, but it gave enough to start understanding what Nebraska’s path will look like this fall.

Opponent rotations for 2026 are now set, and with the conference moving to a 17-match format alongside the introduction of a postseason tournament, the structure is different from what we’re used to. Why does that matter? Well, every team will play each other once. There are no repeat matchups in the regular season and no built-in opportunities to adjust against the same opponent later in the year.

For Nebraska, that means nine home matches and eight on the road.

The Huskers will host Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. They’ll travel to Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Oregon, Penn State and Washington.

That distribution is balanced on paper but the way it plays out will depend heavily on timing, which we won’t know until the full schedule is released. Even without that though, there are a few things that stand out immediately.
